Vectorworks for Corporate AV

AVE Standard Certification | 1 Day | In-Person

Overview

Vectorworks is the industry-standard drafting and documentation tool for AV and production professionals. Whether you're drawing a room layout, building a lighting plot, or generating documentation for a technical rider, the ability to work in Vectorworks is an increasingly expected skill across corporate AV, touring, and event production. This course introduces the essential tools and workflows used by working production professionals, with a focus on accurate documentation, efficient drafting habits, and outputs that hold up in real project environments.

This Class Is Right For You If...

  • You're an AV technician, production manager, or designer who needs to read, build, or contribute to technical drawings.

  • Your company produces documentation for clients or venues, and you want to contribute to that process.

  • You've used Vectorworks before, but haven't had structured training, and want to build a solid foundation.

  • You're building toward a systems designer, technical director, or production management role where documentation is part of the job.

Career Level

with limited self-taught experience. No prior CAD or drafting experience is required.

What You'll Learn

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate the Vectorworks interface and set up a document correctly for AV and production use.

  • Build accurate floor plans, section views, and basic 3D representations.

  • Manage layers, classes, and symbols to maintain organized, professional drawings.

  • Work with standard AV and production symbols and resources.

  • Generate documentation outputs suitable for client deliverables, venue coordination, and technical riders.

  • Apply drafting habits that keep files clean, editable, and useful to other team members.

A Day in Class

Each participant works on a laptop with Vectorworks installed, building drawings from scratch through a structured set of exercises designed around real AV and production scenarios. Instruction moves between technique and practical application, with instructor review of each participant's work and direct feedback on file organization, accuracy, and workflow decisions. You leave with completed drawings and a file structure you can replicate on your next project.

What You Leave With

Participants receive the AVE Vectorworks Certification, issued by AV Educate. This credential shows hands-on training in Vectorworks workflows for AV and production environments and documents your drafting and documentation skills, which are increasingly expected across the industry.

Reducing Risk

Inaccurate or disorganized documentation creates downstream problems: miscommunication with venues, incorrect gear pulls, and technical riders that do not reflect the actual production. A team that can produce clean, accurate Vectorworks drawings works faster, communicates more clearly with clients and partners, and presents a more professional product at every stage of the event process.

Instructors

Alyssa Freire and Ryan Wade are both experienced in AV and production documentation with working knowledge of Vectorworks in professional project environments.
