Overview

RF coordination is one of the most consequential and least formally trained skills in corporate AV. A room full of wireless microphones competing for spectrum is a liability, and most technicians learn to manage it through trial, error, and borrowed knowledge from more experienced colleagues. This course changes that. Participants get a structured, hands-on deep dive into RF coordination for corporate and live event environments, working directly in Shure Wireless Workbench to understand spectrum behavior, build frequency plans, manage intermodulation, and troubleshoot interference issues before and during a live show. The goal is to walk into any RF environment with a plan, not a guess.

Career Level

Mid-Level to Operator: Designed for technicians with foundational audio knowledge who are working with or moving into wireless microphone and RF management responsibilities. Some prior experience with wireless systems is recommended.

What You'll Learn

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

• Explain spectrum behavior and how RF interference occurs in live production environments

• Build a frequency coordination plan using Shure Wireless Workbench

• Identify and manage intermodulation products across a multi-channel wireless system

• Scan and assess an RF environment prior to a show

• Make real-time frequency adjustments during a live production

• Communicate RF requirements and constraints clearly with production teams and venue staff

• Apply a systematic troubleshooting approach to common RF problems on site

A Day in Class

Participants work hands-on in Shure Wireless Workbench throughout the day, building frequency plans, scanning environments, and working through troubleshooting scenarios pulled from real show situations. Instruction moves between the theoretical principles of RF behavior and the practical application of coordination workflow, with a strong emphasis on the decision-making process behind frequency planning. Instructors review each participant's coordination work directly and provide feedback on plan structure, scan interpretation, and troubleshooting approach.

What You Leave With

Participants receive an AVE Shure RF Coordination certificate of completion along with a pre-show RF coordination checklist and a Wireless Workbench reference guide. These materials are structured for immediate on-the-job use, not just reference after the fact.

Reducing Risk

RF problems on a high-stakes show are not minor inconveniences. Dropped microphones, interference, and frequency conflicts during an executive presentation or live broadcast create the kind of moments clients remember for the wrong reasons. A technician trained in formal RF coordination reduces that risk through proper pre-show planning, environment scanning, and the troubleshooting skills to resolve issues before they reach the audience.
