Overview

Most project management training is built for office environments. This course is built for people who actually work on shows. Project Management for AV and Live Events covers the planning, communication, and team coordination skills that keep productions on track from pre-production through strike. Participants learn how to build realistic run-of-show timelines, manage client expectations without overpromising, keep crews aligned when the day goes sideways, and develop the documentation habits that protect everyone involved. This is practical, field-tested PM for the real conditions of live event production.

A Day in Class

Class combines instructor-led discussion with practical exercises drawn directly from real production scenarios: the client who keeps changing the program, the vendor who is running late, the show that is three hours behind before doors. Participants work through these situations, build documentation, and develop decision-making frameworks they can use immediately. Each participant works on a laptop and leaves with completed templates tailored to their own production context. Instructors review participant work and provide direct feedback on documentation quality, communication approach, and prioritization decisions.

What You Leave With

Participants receive an AVE Project Management certificate of completion along with a production documentation toolkit including a run-of-show template, a pre-production checklist, a client communication framework, and a day-of crew briefing guide. These tools are designed to be used on the next show, not adapted from scratch every time.

Reducing Risk

Productions without clear project management create cascading problems: miscommunication between departments, unrealistic timelines, underprepared crews, and clients whose expectations were never properly set. The cost of poor production management shows up in overtime, on-site chaos, and relationships that do not survive the post-show debrief.
