Overview
Master Electrician paperwork is the backbone of organized lighting production and safe power distribution. Whether you are managing a circuit plot, generating a patch sheet, or tracking power loads for a large-scale event, the ability to create and manage professional paperwork is an essential skill for any Master Electrician. This course introduces the essential tools and workflows used by working professionals, focusing on accurate documentation, power management, and organizational habits that ensure a smooth load-in and show.
A Day in Class
Each participant works on a laptop, building professional paperwork from scratch through a structured set of exercises designed around real-world lighting scenarios. Instruction moves between technical calculation and practical organizational strategies, with instructor review of each participant's work and direct feedback on data accuracy and workflow decisions. You leave with a set of paperwork templates and a workflow you can replicate on your next production.
What You Leave With:
Participants receive the AVE Master Electrician Paperwork Certification, issued by AV Educate. This credential shows hands-on training in technical documentation for lighting environments and verifies your ability to manage complex production data.
Reducing Risk:
Inaccurate or incomplete paperwork leads to major downstream problems: blown breakers, incorrect cable counts, and hours of wasted time during load-in. A Master Electrician who can produce clean, accurate paperwork ensures the lighting department works faster, communicates more clearly with other departments, and maintains a safe, professional environment on site.
CORE FOUNDATIONS COVERED
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
Navigate and utilize industry-standard paperwork software and templates for ME workflows.
Manage power distribution schedules and calculate electrical loads accurately.
Generate clear documentation for shop preps, gear pulls, and on-site crew coordination.
Apply organizational habits that keep data clean and useful for programmers and electricians alike.
This class will have a heavy emphasis on using AutoPlots for VW. This plug-in will be required along with a Vectorworks license to complete this class. If you don’t have Vectorworks please let us know.
There are multiple ways to do this paperwork but I will be teaching the process I have developed over the past 8 years of focusing on my master electrician procedures. You will leave class with the ability to produce load balance sheets, cable lists, hang plots, power cable plots and data cable plots, fixture stickers and truss tapes.

Students are required to bring a laptop and have Vectorworks registered on their device before class. A limited number of laptops may be available by request, while supplies last.
