This hands-on training is built for AV professionals who want to understand the fundamentals of lighting for corporate and live events.

If you’re looking to get into lighting, want to better understand what the lighting department is doing on show site, or want to start taking on more lighting roles on your next show, this class is for you.

We’ll take the mystery out of lighting by building a practical foundation around the equipment, terminology, workflows, and concepts you’ll encounter in the field. The goal isn’t just to show you what buttons to push. It’s to help you understand what the gear is doing, why we use it, and how the pieces work together to create a show.

No previous lighting experience is required. Core Foundations Covered

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

• Lighting Fundamentals: Understand the basic terminology, equipment, and roles of a live-event lighting department.

• Fixtures & Their Purpose: Learn about common types of lighting fixtures, what they do, and when you might use them.

• Lighting Systems & Signal Flow: Follow the path from the lighting console to the fixtures and understand how the pieces of a lighting system communicate.

• DMX Fundamentals: Get introduced to DMX, addressing, channels, universes, and how fixtures are controlled.

• Power & Connectivity: Learn the basics of getting fixtures powered, connected, and ready to operate safely.

• By the end of this class, you should have a stronger understanding of how a live-event lighting system comes together and a foundation you can continue building on as you move into more lighting roles.

• If lighting has always been the department you wanted to understand better, this is where you start.
